More than 2.5 million families have positively changed their financial future through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU). The nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success. The course meets once a week where a different lesson is taught by Ramsey on DVD followed by a small-group discussion. Lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing. FPU will be held in Hastings at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Jan.
Lucas graduates from UND The University of North Dakota held its winter commencement ceremonies Friday, Dec. 19, at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus. About 900 students received diplomas or certificates. Mackenzie Lucas of Hastings received a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. Gerold receives scholarship Blake Gerold of Hastings is one of many students to receive scholarships from the University of Minnesota, Morris for the academic year. Gerold is the recipient of the Beta Sigma Psi/Chi Phi Fraternity Alumni Association Scholarships, and the Make A Difference Scholarship.
Fox to play in Hastings as part of Luther College Symphony The Luther College Symphony is touring the upper Midwest in March and they’ll be stopping in Hastings on Monday, March 24, for a concert at the HHS auditorium. The show begins at 7 p.m. Sarah Fox of Hastings plays the viola in the orchestra. • Hastings graduate Nate Flynn is playing hockey at Augsburg College with fellow HHS graduate Tom Kuhn. Flynn is a freshman and Kuhn is a junior. Flynn has two goals and two assists in 11 games so far.
The first baby of 2015 born at Regina Hospital made her appearance at 10:03 a.m. Jan 2. Toree Frances Kochendorfer, weighing 8 pounds, 1.8 ounces and measuring 20 inches long, was born in the Family Birthing Center to Hastings parents Ricca and Wes Kochendorfer. Toree is the fourth child of Ricca and Wes and was welcomed by her siblings Camden, Nolee and Andee. Nurses presented the family with a basket of baby goodies in celebration of being the first newborn of 2015.
Poncelet is named member of Luther College Aurora Miranda Poncelet of Hastings is a member of the Luther College 2014-15 Aurora music ensemble. Poncelet, the daughter of Tim and Lisa Poncelet of Hastings, is majoring in music at Luther College. She is a 2014 graduate of Hastings High School. Carthage College announces dean’s list Amanda Rico of Hampton has been named to Carthage college dean’s list for the fall of 2014.

Jacob Herrmann and Tara Hoeft were married on Nov. 9, 2014, at Schaar’s Bluff, Spring Lake Park. An outdoor service was performed at the stone alcove overlooking the bluffs of the Mississippi River with the reception at the gathering center. With the ceremony being held on deer hunting opener, those invited were encouraged to wear their best camouflage. The groom is the son of John and Shelley Herrmann of Hampton and is employed as a machinist. The bride is the daughter of Henry and Jean Hoeft of Hastings and works in landscaping and gardening.
Foster accepted for admission to Luther College Anna Foster of Hastings has been accepted for admission to Luther College for the 2015-16 academic year. She has been awarded the Founders Scholarship. Bowron graduates from UW-Milwaukee Catherine Ashley Bowron of Hastings graduated on Dec. 10, 2014, from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her academic group was with Helen Bader School Social Welfare. She received her Bachelor of Science degree.
