Authorities recovered a body from the debris of a house explosion Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2019, in the 24000 block of Lewiston Boulevard, in Hampton Township, according to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

Hastings High School juniors Billy Utecht and Amy Roach are the school's ExCEL Award winners. The ExCEL award is a Minnesota State High School League-sponsored award that stands for Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership and is "is a unique program designed exclusively for high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community."
Hastings High School seniors Hannah Hubbart and Sam Kelly are their school's recipients of the Triple "A" Award. The Triple "A" Award—standing for academics, athletics and arts—is a Minnesota State High School League-sponsored award and both Hubbart and Kelly will be eligible for additional state-level recognition.

The Dakota County Historical Society is seeking individuals to participate in a two-hour tour review event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St. The event is free of charge and will include a tour and discussion.
The Sports Car Club of America has announced its 2019 schedule of Track Night in America, and it's returning to Rosemount for five days. The track days will be May 17, June 21, July 25, Aug. 15 and Sept. 13 at the Dakota County Technical College driver training facility. Track Night in America is a noncompetitive option for anyone who loves cars to get on a race course in their own vehicle. Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license, an approved helmet and a street car in good working condition.

A donation shortfall over the winter holidays has prompted the American Red Cross to issue an emergency call for blood and platelet donors to give now to prevent a blood shortage from continuing throughout winter and affecting patient care. The Red Cross collected more than 27,000 fewer blood and platelet donations the weeks of Christmas and New Year's than needed to sustain a sufficient blood supply. During this period, about 1,350 fewer blood drives were hosted by volunteer sponsor groups than required to meet patient needs as busy holiday schedules kept many donors away.
