Explore the St. Croix River from another perspective. From mussels to raptors and a variety of living river critters, experience the St. Croix River on an ecological-minded cruise featuring river life. Naturalists of the Carpenter Nature Center will share their expertise of the natural history of the area aboard a scenic boat cruise offered by Afton*Hudson Cruise Lines. Live raptors and various river critters will be aboard for a first-hand look at river life. The Grand Duchess will set sail on Friday, July 20, and guests of all ages are invited to join the fun.
The Octagon House Museum and Gift Shop will begin its 2017 fall tour season and will be open only on the weekends in September and October. The museum is open on Saturdays at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.and Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m. Guided walk-in tours take about 45 minutes and start on the hour. Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum visited the Hudson Golf Club Friday and emphasized the need for a conservative candidate to challenge President Barack Obama in the November election. Santorum also painted his Republican challenger Mitt Romney as a "moderate." "Every time a moderate Republican has run against an incumbent Democrat president, the Republican has lost," Santorum said. He compared himself to a conservative Ronald Reagan, who defeated incumbent Democrat Jimmy Carter in 1980. "Don't compromise your principles to satisfy the pundits," Santorum said.
David Erickson, the Chief Executive Officer of Erickson Oil Products, Inc. / Freedom Valu Centers based in Hudson, died Wednesday as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident near Bozeman, Montana. His wife, Debi, was with him and sustained minor injuries. She is being treated at a local hospital in Bozeman. Erickson, 55, is the son of the late Claire and Betty Lou Erickson and was a 1973 graduate of Hudson High School. According to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, the accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday on Bridger Canyon Road.
