HASTINGS — Hastings Family Service announced Hastings Tastings will be held April 3 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Area restaurants will provide samples of their specialty menu items and there will also be a silent auction, raffles and entertainment. All proceeds raised at the event will go toward HFS and since it is MN FoodShare month, the funds will be proportionately matched.
Dakota County became the first county in Minnesota to roll out the Vitals Aware Services countywide. The new service is designed to improve interactions between law enforcement and people living with intellectual, behavioral and developmental challenges.
HASTINGS — The City of Hastings and the Hastings Economic Development and Redevelopment Authority (HEDRA) officially transferred ownership of the former Hudson Manufacturing Building, located at 200 West Second St., to Confluence Development on March 5.
Hastings Family Service will host a city-wide food fight for the month of March with the help of MN FoodShare. All the gifts of money and food from Feb. 26 through April 8 will be matched proportionately by MN FoodShare. The MN FoodShare March Campaign is an annual food drive engaging communities, civic organizations, schools, businesses, families and individuals to restock food shelves across the state of Minnesota.
Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie announced Feb. 27 that he will run for re-election in November. Leslie was first elected sheriff in 2014, but he has called Dakota County home for more than 30 years. "What happens in this county matters to me, not just as sheriff, but as a husband, father, grandfather and neighbor," Leslie said. "If re-elected as sheriff, I will work tirelessly to ensure the Dakota County Sheriff's Office continues to set the standard for public safety."
HASTINGS — The United Way of Hastings celebrated moving the business to a new location in downtown Hastings with a ribbon cutting event Feb. 14. The new office is located inside the Meyer Building at 113 Second St. East in Suite 102. Community members toured the renovated space included a welcome area, work areas, offices and a conference room.
St. John the Baptist Catholic School recently hosted a Feed My Starving Children 'mobilePack' event where more than 270 volunteers packed 54,000 meals. The event packed thousands of fortified rice 'manna pack' meals to be shipped worldwide to feed hungry children. The event was held as a way to build community and provide a potentially transforming service opportunity to students, families, parishioners and neighbors. The group packed enough meals to feed 150 children for an entire year.

To Bob, Steve and Jesse at Caturia, Smidt and Starkson Funeral Home. My brother Vince passed away Jan. 3, 2018 in Long Beach, Calif. and was cremated there. Bob, Steve and Jesse advised me how to proceed in bring his ashes back to Hastings and burying them with our folks Godfrey and Madeline Nelson at Hastings cemetery. A special thanks to Pete Likes, the caretaker, for your help during this process. The boys were very professional with little cost to me. I am pleased that Jesse broke ground for new mortuary. The TLC of Hastings 9th annual banquet will be Feb. 17 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Banquet Hall. The theme is "You are the Missing Piece." There will be two events this year: the luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m. and the dinner program will begin at 5 p.m.
