Bee Elizabeth Peterson, age 82, of Hastings, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 17, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St., Hastings. Gathering one hour prior to service at church. Clifford P. Swanson Jr., a wonderful father and loving husband, passed away April 17, 2010. Cliff was born to Ruth and Clifford Swanson Sr. on Dec. 30, 1930, in Hastings, Minn. Cliff was raised a farmer, which anyone who knew him, understood that animals and farms were his passion. He was raised in a loving home with two brothers, James and Charles, and five sisters, Lucille, Lois, Carol, Janet (precedes Cliff in death) and Roberta. Cliff met his wife Clarissa (Snook) Swanson at Hastings High School where he graduated, and they were married on Feb. 23, 1952.
Helen Louise (Thompson) Emrick, 94, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Prescott Nursing and Rehab Community in Prescott, Wis. Helen was born on July 31, 1915, in Champaign, Ill., to Earl and Emma Thompson. She attended college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and married Franklin Emrick on April 15, 1933. Helen and Franklin retired to Roswell, N.M., before moving back to Hastings, Minn.
Margaret Ann Temmers, age 73, of Prescott, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prescott. Fr. Ed Shuttleworth will officiate. Burial will be Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at the Hill Funeral Home, Prescott and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Earl H. Welshons, age 81, of Wabasha, Minn., died of pancreatic cancer Monday, April 12, 2010, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Hastings, Minn., the son of Amos and Martha (Sieben) Welshons. He was a graduate of Hastings High School. Following high school, he worked for the Minnesota Highway Department and then he served in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he worked as a county engineer in Bremer and Dubuque Counties in Iowa and Winona County in Minnesota.
Mary "Katy" Schweich, age 84, of New Trier, died April 12, 2010, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, Minn. Mary was born March 27, 1926, in Douglas Township, to Marcus and Ursula (Shannon) Serres and was a 1944 graduate of Hastings High School. She married Ralph Schweich on Oct.
Jerome Rooney Jerome "Jerry" Rooney, age 88, of Hastings, passed away at his home on April 12, 2010. He was born on Sept. 6, 1921, to Edward and Cecilia Rooney in Owatonna, Minn. Jerry married Miriam (Carlblom) on June 12, 1971, in Hastings. He is a World War II veteran and the past commander of the American Legion (1962).
Helen L. Emrick, age 94, of Hastings, passed away at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community on April 11, 2010. Private family services will be held. The Wise Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary P. Sartor, age 90, of Nerstrand, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at home following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Mary Petronella Reuvers, the daughter of Wilhelmus and Cornelia Alberta (Loeffen) Reuvers, was born on March 11, 1920, in Wijchen, Holland.
Dr. Joseph K. Kugler, age 77, a retired Hastings dentist, died April 7, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. Joe was born April 14, 1932, to Joseph and Gertrude (Kirby) Kugler in St. Paul, Minn. He graduated from Cretin High School in St. Paul, received a B.S. from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and received his D.D.S. from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He married Jill (Harbin) in 1959 in Manistique, Mich. Joe was a caring and talented dentist for 30 years in Hastings. He was a loyal friend to many, an avid historian, and loved the outdoors.
