Girls' Tennis: Raiders start season 1-2 in Duluth

The Raiders girls' tennis team started their season this past weekend at a quadrangular in Duluth. They played three matches, against Duluth East, Virginia and Simley, coming away with a win over Virginia, 4-3, while falling to Duluth East and Simley, 4-3.

Duluth East

Against Duluth East, Hastings split the singles matches while losing two-out-of-three doubles. Sophomore Anri Sakakibara won No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1 and senior Elizabeth Henrichs took No. 4 singles 6-1, 7-5. Senior Emily Beyer fell in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and junior Amy Roach lost No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0.

Senior Alexandra Doughty and sophomore Erika Henrichs lost No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0 and senior Lauren Jelley and sophomore Audrey Langworthy fell in No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Skylar Tjomsland and freshman Charlotte Kranz won No. 3 doubles 7-5, 6-1.


The Raiders singles bounced back against Virginia taking three-of-four and sealing the win with a doubles victory. Roach won in No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-1(10-7), Elizabeth Henrichs took No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 and Sakakibara won No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Beyer lost a tight No. 2 singles match 3-6, 6-4(10-7).

Doughty and Kranz won No. 3 doubles 6-2, 7-6 to seal the win for Hastings. Senior Anna Lindner and Langworthy fell in No. 1 doubles 6-4, 7-5 while Jelley and Erika Henrichs lost 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles. Kranz and sophomore Myana Green won an exhibition match 8-3.


Simley swept Hastings in the singles matches as head coach Marissa Welch switched up the lineup, but the Raiders responded by taking all of the doubles. Kranz lost 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles and Doughty fell 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Langworthy was defeated in No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-4 while Jelley fell 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Elizabeth Henrichs and Roach won No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-1. Beyer and Sakakibara took No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1 and Lindner and Erika Henrichs took No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-2. Green and Reinardy won an exhibition match 7-5.
