The Hastings Area Swim Team had a lot to be thankful for in the month of November and the HAST swimmers really heated up the pools in December with some fast swims.

Success was found at the NOR Conference C/Pre-C meet in Northfield on Nov. 16. They brought 12 swimmers to the meet and achieved new times in the C-8 division. The HAST swimmer of the meet was newcomer Lily Meier. This is Lily's first season with HAST after competing in her first season with the Hastings Middle School girls' swim team. She is getting the opportunity to swim many new events as long with having vast improvements with previous events she has experience swimming. Lily achieved new C times in the 50-yard backstroke, 50 breaststroke and the 100 breaststroke.

The Hastings Area Swim Team hosted the HAST TYR Fall IMX Power Point Invite Nov. 17-18 where 11 teams attended and 68 HAST swimmers achieved new times in CH-5, A-6, BB-23, B-26 and C-24 divisions. Two swimmers were named as swimmers of the meet: Thomas Foss and Afton LeMay. Foss swam six-out-of-six best times, cutting over 51 seconds in all his events. Nineteen of those seconds came from swimming the 100 butterfly, in which he earned a new BB time. Thomas earned his first Champ time in the 50 backstroke, which qualifies him to swim at the state swim meet in March. He also earned BB times in the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 individual medley and a new B time in the 50 breaststroke. LeMay swam six-out-of-six best times, cutting more than 24 seconds overall. She earned a new BB time in the 50 freestyle and new B times in the 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly.

As the snow fell the weekend of Dec. 1-2, the HAST swimmers were melting seconds from their swims at the SCSC TYR December Invite at the St. Catherine's University pool in St Paul. Thirty-nine HAST swimmers competed at this meet, teaming up to achieve new times in the CH-1, A-2, BB-9, B-18 and C-10 divisions. The HAST swimmer of the meet was Clara Birken. Birken swam six-out-of-six best times; cutting more than 34 seconds overall. The highlight of her meet was cutting 25 seconds in the 500 freestyle and earning a new B time in that event.

The team kept bringing the heat at the BAC Holiday Classic Invitational on Dec. 8-9 at the Olson Middle School pool in Bloomington, where 39 HAST swimmers achieved new times in Zone-1, CH-2, A-2, BB-3, B-3 and C-5. The HAST swimmer of the meet was another newcomer, Lauren Krause. Krause has started her swimming career out strong. She swam five new events at the Holiday Classic and earned four new C times in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.

Wrapping December up with the last competition for HAST swimmers was the HAST Conf C/Pre-C meet on Dec. 14 at the Hastings Middle School pool. Twenty HAST swimmers swam at the meet and achieved new times in B-8 and C=8. Isabella Larson was named the swimmer of the meet and swam three-out-of-three best times. Her hard work is paying off and she was able to achieve two new B times in the 50 and 100 freestyle events with her first new C time in the 100 breaststroke.
