Hastings girls' swimming and diving section preliminaries results
The Hastings Raiders girls' swimming and diving team competed in their Section 1AA preliminary races Wednesday evening at the Rochester Recreation Center. All relays made it to the finals on Friday as well as swimmers in every event. Diving preliminaries take place Thursday evening. The top two swimmers/teams in each event, plus anyone under the qualifying standard time in the events. The top four divers in each section also qualify for the state meet. Below are those swimmers who qualified for the finals by event, the top eight relays and 16 swimmers in each event advanced.
200 medley relay: The relay team for freshman Kendal Jenkins and juniors Katie Gjelhaug, Drew Gerlach and Shannon McCullough finished second with a time of 1 minute, 53.46 seconds.
200 freestyle: Senior Natasha Girgen was fifth with a time of 1:58.06 and freshman Kendra Kosmoski was 10th in 2:01.59.
200 individual medley: Seventh-grader Lauren Jenkins took fifth with a time of 2:16.22, Kendal Jenkins finished 13th in 2:19.62 and junior Shannon McCullough placed 14th (2:23.05).
50 freestyle: Seventh-grader Ashtyn Stewart took seventh with a time of 25.27.
100 butterfly: Junior Drew Gerlach tied for first with a time of 1:00.61, Stewart was fourth in 1:00.82, Gjelhaug finished sixth in 1:01.79 and eighth-grader Ava McNamara placed 13th (1:04.03).
100 freestyle-Girgen took fifth with a time of 54.34 and sophomore Emma Gelhar finished 13th in 56.66.
500 freestyle: Lauren Jenkins took ninth with a time of 5:24.44 and Kosmoski finished 12th in 5:35.22.
200 freestyle relay: the team of Stewart, Kosmoski, Lauren Jenkins and Girgen took fourth with a time of 1:44.38.
100 backstroke: Kendal Jenkins took fourth with a time of 1:00.91, McCullough finished seventh in 1:03.33 and Gerlach placed 15th (1:06.74).
100 breaststroke: Gjelhaug took 11th with a time of 1:12.55 and junior Brooklyn Byrd finished 16th in 1:14.11.
400 freestyle relay: the team of Stewart, Kendal Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins and Girgen took fourth with a time of 3:51.29.
