No swimmers received a speeding ticket, but the Hastings Area Swim Team swam fast during the championship meets at the end of the fall/winter 2017-18 swim season.

On March 3-4, HAST attended the NOR MN Achievement Championships in Northfield. Thirty-eight HAST swimmers competed at this event, teaming up to achieve new times in three divisions: BB-1, B-43 and C-10.

The swimmer of the meet was William Cory. He swam seven-out-of-eight best times, cutting more than 24 seconds overall. William achieved a new B time in the 100 backstroke.

Hastings Area Swim Team swimmers continued their speedy swimming March 9-11 at the Minnesota Regional Championships at the Rochester Recreation Center Natatorium. This meet is the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the state swim meet. Forty-eight HAST swimmers qualified to compete at this event. Together they achieved new times in Zone-4, CHAMP-31, A-15, BB-22, B-3 and C-1.

There was a phenomenal showing of athleticism throughout the Regional Championships. It was tough to choose one swimmer out of the 48 on the HAST team to receive the swimmer of the meet honors. Three swimmers were adorned with the title: Lauren Jenkins, Ashtyn Stewart and Caleb Urban.

Lauren Swam nine-out-of-nine best times, cutting over 47 seconds in all her events. She earned new Champ times in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly, and 500 freestyle events. She also achieved Zone times in the 200 freestyle, and 200 and 400 individual medley events.

Ashtyn Stewart swam seven-out-of-seven best times and cut over 19 seconds overall. Ashtyn earned new Champ times in the 50, 100 and 500 freestyle events, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley. She earned a new Zone time in the 200 freestyle.

Caleb Urban swam eight-out-of-eight best times and cut over 55 seconds total in all his events. He earned new Champ times in the 100 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, 200 and 400 IM and in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Caleb earned a new A time in the 100 IM.
