Alpine Skiing: Hastings teams start season at Wild Mountain

The Hastings Raiders boys' and girls' alpine skiing teams opened their competition Dec. 21 at the 2018 Wild Invite held at Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls. The girls finished in 15th with 365 points out of 24 teams while the boys were runners-up with 493 points, just eight points behind the winner Brainerd. Senior Alexa Kimmes was the top finisher for the girls in 15th with a combined time of 1 minute, 14.19 seconds, while junior Sam Molitor took ninth overall with a time of 1:04.10.

Next behind Kimmes was freshman Taylor Pelava in 60th with a time of 1:23.60, junior Miranda Ries was right behind her in 61st (1:23.71) and seventh-grader Abigail Pelava was 63rd in 1:23.81. Junior Nicole Reents took 66th with a time of 1:24.41 and eighth-grader Mallory Karnick finished 94th (1:33.79).

Making the top-20 for the boys was eighth-grader Aaron Herber who took 19th with a time of 1:04.10. Seventh-grader Jackson Reents finished 24th in 1:08.59 and junior Thomas Karnick was 27th (1:09.32). Freshman Caleb Kimmes took 35th with a time of 1:09.90 and sophomore Ben McKinney was 90th in 1:23.99.

Hastings next competes at Welch Village on Tuesday, Jan. 8, for a Metro East Conference meet and then on Friday, Jan. 11, they host the Welch Invitational which features both a varsity and junior varsity meet.
