Berg and Daggett hired as new Hastings girls' lacrosse coaches
Hastings High School and athletic director Trent Hanson announced on Monday the hiring of two new co-head coaches for the Raiders girls' lacrosse team.
"Hastings High School is proud to announce the hiring of two girls' lacrosse coaches, Mr. Corwyn Berg and Ms. Grace Daggett. Mr. Corwyn Berg is an instructor at the YMCA in Hastings and is pursuing a degree in secondary education. He recently moved to Hastings from Maryland, where he coached soccer and softball for a collegiate prep school in Washington D.C. Corwyn was born in Hastings, and after some family moves graduated from Plainfield South High School in Illinois, where he was a multi-sport athlete in baseball and soccer.Ms. Grace Daggett is a physical education and health major, with a coaching minor, at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul where she will graduate in December 2018. She has played collegiate lacrosse for the last three years, including one year as a college club sport and two years as an NCAA sport. An ACL knee injury will prevent her from playing college lacrosse this season, but she is excited that she will have an opportunity to coach a sport that she loves at her alma mater. Grace is a 2014 graduate of Hastings High School who was a multi-sport athlete in basketball and lacrosse."
Hanson said the two will serve co-head coaches, while Berg will be the Minnesota State High School League's official contact. They replace former head coach Laurie Aaronson, who had coached the Raiders the past two seasons. Returning from last year's staff will be Mandy Heitkamp, who will serve as a part-time assistant. The team went 4-9 last season, more than doubling their amount of wins from the season before. They fell in the first round of section playoffs, 7-5, when they hosted Minnehaha Academy.
