Hastings gymnastics competes at section 1AA meet
ROCHESTER — The Hastings Raiders gymnastics team competed at the section 1AA meet this past Friday at Rochester John Marshall High School. As a team, the Raiders finished seventh with a score of 124.55, three points ahead of Rochester John Marshall and seven points behind Rochester Mayo. Hastings also received a gold academic award with a 3.85 team GPA. While Hastings did not have any gymnasts place in the top 10 of events, they did perform more difficult routines then they had all season.
Seventh-grader Kyra Bartholomew was the Raiders' top finisher on the vault when she tied for 20th place with a score of 8.55. Sophomore Rachel Hughes scored an 8.3, freshman Madelynn Hayes scored an 8.25, lone senior Emma Fendrick came away with a 7.95 and junior Kailee Greenough scored a 7.5.
On the uneven bars, Hughes tied for 26th with a 7.9. Bartholomew was not far behind with a 7.6, Fendrick was right behind Bartholomew with a 7.4 and sophomore Erica Haas scored a 7.2. Fellow sophomore Lauren Ruder finished with a 6.85.
Bartholomew had the highest score on the balance beam for Hasting with a 7.775, which put her in 31st. Greenough scored a 7.1, Hughes came away with a 6.8, sophomore Autumn Keller finished with a 6.75 and Fendrick had a 5.825.
All five Raider gymnasts who competed on the floor exercise finished close together. Keller scored an 8.3, Fendrick and 8.275 and Hughes an 8.25. Hayes scored an 8.15 and Bartholomew finished with an 8.05. All of them placed in the late-20s to mid-30s.
Three Raiders put together strong performances for the all-around. Bartholomew was 19th with an all-around score of 31.975, Hughes took 21st with a 31.25 and Fendrick was 22nd with 29.45.
Fendrick is Hastings' lone senior graduating this year and they will have a young core to continue to build around next year.
