Hastings goes 1-2 against conference foes
The Hastings girls' tennis team followed up a difficult tournament two weeks ago with a tough Metro East Conference stretch this past week. The Raiders went 1-2 last week with a win against North St. Paul and losses to Simley and Mahtomedi. Hastings is now 11-10 overall with sections right around the corner.
Last Tuesday, Sept. 19, Hastings hosted Simley and lost 4-3. The Raiders were swept in singles but took all their doubles matches. Junior Elizabeth Henrichs lost in first singles 2-6, 2-6; sophomore Amy Roach fell in second singles 4-6, 6-7(6); junior Emily Beyer dropped third singles 4-6, 6-7(5) and freshman Erika Henrichs lost in fourth singles 1-6, 0-6.
Isabella Kranz and Anri Sakakibara won first doubles 6-1, 3-6, 6-0; Rachel Weber and Ava Hernlem took second doubles 6-2, 6-4 and Morgan Reinardy and Anna Lindner won third doubles 6-2, 6-0.
The Raiders were swept by the Zephyrs 7-0 on Thursday, Sept. 21. Elizabeth Henrichs fell in first singles 0-6, 1-6; Roach lost in second singles 0-6, 4-6; Beyer lost third singles 0-6, 2-6 and junior Alex Doughty dropped fourth singles 0-6, 0-6.
Kranz/Sakakibara lost first doubles 1-6, 0-6; Weber/Hernlem were swept 0-6 in both sets and Reinardy/Lindner fell 3-6, 1-6.
North St. Paul
Hastings was able to bounce back against the North St. Paul Polars 6-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Elizabeth Henrichs won 6-7(4), 6-1, 10-5; Roach swept second singles 6-0, 6-0; Beyer easily took third singles 6-1, 6-1 but Erika Henrichs fell in a hard-fought fourth singles 2-6, 7-5, 8-10.
Kranz/Sakakibara won first doubles 6-2, 6-1; Weber/Hernlem swept second doubles 6-0, 6-0 and Reinardy/Doughty won third doubles 6-0, 6-2.
The Raiders have just one dual left against Hill-Murray on Thursday, Sept. 28, and then sections start. The first round of section 1AA playoffs is on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the highest seed, and the second round is Thursday, Oct. 5. Section team finals will be Tuesday, Oct. 10, and then individual sections will be Thursday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 17. The state tournament is Tuesday-Friday, Oct. 24-27.
