Raiders run in the heat at Mayo Invitational

The Hastings boys' and girls' cross country teams competed in the Lakeville AppleJack Invitational hosted by Lakeville North at Aronson Park on Saturday, Sept. 16. The boys' team took 14th out of 27 teams. The girls' team is fighting a rash of injuries so the Raider girls' ran as individuals.

Freshman Linnea Urban was the top finisher between both teams. Urban finished eighth out of 162 runners for the girls' race with a time of 20 minutes and 27.88 seconds. Senior David Nogle was the top runner for the boys as he took 30th out of 184 runners in 18:03.27.

Junior Eric Howd took 51st with a time of 18:28.74, senior Griffin Myers placed 74th (18:46.05), sophomores Isaac Huntington (19:03.76), Devon Haraldson (19:08.55) and Luke Harris (19:19.99) finished 84th, 87th and 96th respectively, while freshman Nolan Myers took 113th with a time of 19:41.88.

Besides Urban, three other girls ran individually for the Raiders. Freshman Linnea Hanson took 59th with a time of 22:29.42, fellow freshman Emma Bratvold finished 92nd in 23:36.95 and junior Megan Mattson placed 11th (24:09.28).

"Linnea Urban ran extremely well for being a new runner, finished eighth overall and was very impressive," head coach John Dewall said. "It was very, very warm and the heat definitely took its toll on people."

Looking ahead to the second half of the season, Dewall said it was time to start performing.

"We just need to get some of our girls healthy and from there we're gearing up to the bulk of our season. We're in the guts of our season and now we need to start performing. They've done a lot of training and things will start to materialize."

Both teams traveled to Hudson, Wis., on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and then they go to Red Wing on Friday, Sept. 29.
