The Hastings boys' and girls' soccer teams have been in goal slumps over the past two weeks, but each have the slow part of their schedule to engineer a turnaround.

Both teams have near identical records, with the boys' team 3-4-1 overall while the girls are 3-4-0. The Raider boys are tied for last in the Metro East Conference with a record of 0-2-1, while the girls are fourth in the MEC at 1-1.

Raider boys' 0-3-1 in last two weeks

Two weeks ago the Hastings boys were shut out twice by two very good teams in White Bear Lake and North St. Paul. Last week, they continued to have trouble scoring as they managed just one goal apiece against South St. Paul and Class 1A fourth-ranked St. Thomas Academy.

The Raiders traveled to South St. Paul on Sept. 12, and came away with a 1-1 tie. Junior midfielder Logan Boogren had the lone goal for Hastings while junior goalkeeper Sam Kelly tallied an impressive 14 saves. Two days later Hastings traveled to St. Thomas Academy where they lost to the Cadets 5-1.

Over the past four games the Raiders have scored just two goals. While those games have come against good opponents, it also makes five-out-of-eight games they have scored one goal or fewer. However, Hastings is 3-0 when scoring two goals or more.

The Raiders hosted Tartan on Tuesday, Sept. 19, after this article went to print, and then travel to Pine Island to play Pine Island-Zumbrota-Mazeppa (PIZM) on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Girls' team solidly in the middle of the MEC

The Hastings girls played just one game this past week when they traveled to South St. Paul on Sept. 12. The Raiders were shutout 7-0 by the Packers, but they still sit solidly in the middle of the pack in the MEC. They host Tartan on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and Richfield on Thursday, Sept. 21, before they travel to Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday, Sept. 23.
