Mudhens win opening round playoff game, 14-3

The top of the first inning didn’t go the way the Miesville Mudhens had intended when they opened the playoffs on Sunday, Aug. 7, against the Northfield Knights.

The heavily favored Mudhens surrendered two first inning runs and fell behind, 2-0, before they even got to the plate.

That, though, was about the only thing that went wrong for the Mudhens.

In fact, by the time the first inning was over, the Mudhens held a 3-2 lead.

By the time the second inning was over, Miesville led 8-2.

They went on to score at least one run in each of the first six innings of play and won 14-3.

Jacob Dickmeyer was the winning Miesville pitcher. He threw a complete game and allowed eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.

At the plate, the Mudhens were led by Charles Bruchu and Nate Hammes. Bruchu had four hits and four runs in five at-bats. Nate Hammes had four hits, too, including a home run.

Also recording hits for the Mudhens were Joey Werner, Deryk Marks, Sebastian Holte-Mancera, Andrew Werner, Zach Laffey, Spencer Merle and Shannon Ahern.

The Mudhens have had a fantastic season thus far, sporting a 25-4 record in regular season play.
