Hastings lost to Park in the season gymnastics opener

The Hastings gymnastics team got its season started on Thursday night with a home meet against the Park Wolfpack. Hastings lost the meet, 133.975-119.275.

Hastings had a number of gymnasts either out or dealing with injuries.

“Hopefully we’ll have a few more girls competing in more events soon,” coach Jeanne Kasel said. “We’re getting some bugs out. We’re just nursing some minor injuries. Nothing serious. Hopefully we’ll come back each week a little stronger.”

Among the highlights was the third-place finish on the vault by Taylor Engstrom.

“She’s stepping it up and working on her twisting more,” Kasel said. “She’s really focused.”

On bars, Engstrom had a 7.8 and Alaina Kremer had a 7.725.

On beam, Hollar led the way with a 7.75.

Engstrom led Hastings in scoring on floor with an 8.025.

Engstrom was second in the all-around with a 31.05. Hollar was third with a 30.725.

Just before the meet, Kremer hurt her ankle, which didn’t make the meet an easy one for her.

“She still competed in all the events,” Kasel said.
