Hawks season comes to an end

The Hastings Hawks season came to an end this past Friday night as they lost their game three matchup with the Red Wing Aces in the first round of the CCVL playoffs. Hastings fought hard the entire playoff series. This was most evident in game two of their series with Red Wing as Hastings had their backs against the ropes several times in the contest, yet the team was still able to come out victorious. Game two took place this past Tuesday night, and the Hawks came ready to play.

Hastings was down in the contest early as the score was 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth. The Hawks proved in this inning that they were not ready to end their season, as the team was able to showcase an inning of offensive explosion. Hastings would hit the ball all around the park in that inning in what proved to be a complete team offensive effort, and they would go on to tie the game with a five-run inning. The Hawks would not be done there, though, as they were able to take the lead for good when Jordan Jeske hit a sacrifice fly to right-center field that scored baserunner Tony Kaiser from third base. Jose Velez came in for the save in the ninth inning. He was able to strike out two batters, and secured the thrilling 9-8 victory in quick fashion.

Offensively, It was an impressive game on the stat sheet for the Hawks as the team had 12 total hits. Drew Benson had a monster game as he was able to notch four RBIs, and a home run. Five other Hawks also had an RBI.

With the win, Hastings was able to force a pivotal game three matchup against Red Wing.. Game three was played in Red Wing on Friday night. The Hawks were not able to carry any of their offensive momentum from game two into game three as they were shutout and only got two hits in the contest. It was an impressive day on the mound for Red Wing as their starting pitcher struck-out 11 hawks batters. Hastings lost the game 3-0. This loss marked the end of the Hawks season.
