CC boys take 8th in Owatonna

The Hastings boys cross country team placed eighth at the Ev Berg Invitational in Owatonna on Oct. 7.

The Raiders finished with 208 points. Rosemount won the race with 24. Owatonna was second and Rochester Mayo was third.

Running varsity for Hastings were:

Zack Benning, ninth, 17:31.2; Colby Smith, 35th, 17:37.4; Joseph Rabaey, 39th, 17:43.8; Riley Tarrant, 50th, 18:11.9; Christian Weiland, 54th, 18:18.3; Lucas Human, 60th, 18:31.1; and Mohamed Osman, 68th, 18:48.3.

"Joe is pushing Colby every meet," Hastings coach John Dewall said. "It's good to have that kind of competition throughout the team. In two to three years, these guys are going to be really good. They're good now, but they'll get a lot better."

The Hastings girls placed 10th out of 13 teams with 260 points. Rosemount won the race with 45 and Rochester Century was second with 71.

Bri Strandberg led Hastings with an 11th-place finish in 15:51.8.

Also running varsity were:

Helen Jensen, 38th, 16:45.2; Juliann Moes, 67th, 17:37.9; Nicole Froehling, 68th, 17:43.0; Makaila England, 76th, 18:04.7; and Allissa Smith, 83rd, 18:30.6.


The Hastings junior varsity boys placed seventh out of 12 teams in Owatonna. Hastings had 222 points. Rosemount won the meet with 23.

Running junior varsity for Hastings were:

Ben Jackson, 29th, 19:18.2; Jacob Rachuy, 31st, 19:21.4; Domingo Yandrasits, 47th, 19:46.8; Tim Zappa, 49th, 19:51.6; Isaiah Gardell, 66th, 20:55.5; Spencer Saccoman, 67th, 20:56.9; and Michael Stricker, 70th, 21:22.6.


The Hastings boys placed third out of six teams at the Mankato East invite last week.

Benning led the Raiders with an 11th-place finish. Smith was 16th, Rabaey was 20th, Tarrant was 26th, Christian Weiland was 29th, Osman was 33rd and Human was 39th.
