Raiders take fourth in Hudson

The Hastings boys cross country team had a strong finish at the annual Hudson Raider Invitational on Sept. 21, placing fourth out of nine teams.

Making head coach John Dewall even more excited about the finish was the fact that only one senior was in the top seven for Hastings. Plus, the top two Hastings runners were freshmen.

"It was really nice to see that kind of finish," Dewall said.

Zack Benning led the Raiders with a 12th-place finish and a time of 18:08.4.

"Zack had a great race again," Dewall said.

Colby Smith took 16th in 18:35.0.

They are both freshmen.

Joseph Rabaey, a sophomore, was 19th in 18:41.6 and Mohamed Osman was 23rd in 19:00.5.

Chase Keilers, a senior, was 26th in 19:07.5, Riley Tarrant was 28th in 19:10.6 and Christian Weiland took 38th in 19:37.6.

"We had a group of runners again," Dewall said. "They can interchange positions. That's good. They push each other. There's a lot of competition among those top six or seven boys. That builds up everybody."

Hastings finished with 96 points.

Forest Lake won the meet with 35. Hudson was second with 60 and Mahtomedi was third with 86.

The Hastings girls placed seventh out of eight teams with 201 points.

Mahtomedi won the meet with 42, Hudson was second with 74 and Menomonie was third with 75.

Seventh-grader Helen Jensen led the Hastings contingent with a 22nd-place finish. She had a time of 17 minutes, 41.7 seconds.

Juliann Moes was 38th in 18:45.8.

Makaila England finished in 43rd with a time of 19:28.5.

Nicole Froehling placed 45th in 19:47.3 and Alissa Smith took 53rd in 21:22.5.
