Pengelly wins Mora Vasaloppet
Evan Pengelly, a former Hastings High School Nordic skier, won the 42K men's classic race at the 38th annual Mora Vasaloppet recently.
Pengelly, who now lives in Plymouth with his wife and son, won in a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes and 33 seconds. The Mora Vasaloppet is the largest cross country ski-racing event in Minnesota, with more than 1,900 racers entered this year.
Pengelly placed second in the Feb. 6 Minneapolis City of Lakes Loppet 25K classic, a race he won in 2008. He is a special education teacher at Centennial High School in Circle Pines.
