To the editor:
The United Way of Hastings is the HEART of Hastings raising and donating money locally for over 50 years. The programs funded by UWH are all local agencies and programs — supporting education, health and financial empowerment.
Food 4 Kids is a program of the United Way of Hastings in partnership with 360 Communities and ISD 200. Some children in Hastings don't have enough to eat. Weekends without school meals can be especially tough. Food 4 Kids provides bags of kid-friendly food for the weekend.
Food 4 Kids launched in 2016 and now helps feed 120 Hastings students each weekend. Many local organizations, companies and churches collect, donate and pack the non-perishable weekend packs. The bags contain six food items (two each of breakfast, lunch and dinner). All items are easy open (pop-top) cans or packages that are simple microwaveable foods.
Items needed include: cereal — individual serving boxes, cereal bars, oatmeal packets, juice boxes, small cans of ravioli or spaghettios, soup, ramen noodles, individual mac & cheese cups, beef sticks, peanut butter packets, any "kid-friendly" food and gallon Ziploc bags for packing.
Help "STUFF THE BUS" for Food 4 Kids Aug. 20-27 at local stores Coborn's, Cub Foods and Walmart by donating food or cash. Look for signs, displays and donation bins at the stores.
Donate online at www.unitedwayofhastings.org or by calling UWH at 651.438.3337.
By donating to this program you are helping kids come to school Monday mornings ready to learn!
