To the editor,

I saw an interesting Facebook post whose author cited several reasons to vote for Carrie Tate and Mike Reis for school board.

Among them was to stop “conservative values being attacked,” as evidenced by school mask mandates and contact tracing.

As a former teacher at Hastings Middle School, I am dismayed that these people would run on this platform.

My understanding about conservative values are that they include family values, service to one’s country and lower taxes.

I thought family values included health and protection of children, the very children that these candidates apparently feel are somehow immune from COVID-19.

I thought service to country included protecting and caring for others in one’s community.

Is the only type of service to our country military? What about caring enough about other people to take a jab in the arm?

In the Facebook post, the writer proposed that we “ban together”. Did she really mean ban together? Because then I agree. Together, ban these candidates.
