Letter: Go see Black Dirt Theater's 'Resurrection'

I had the opportunity to attend Black Dirt Theater's production of The Sound of Music" last summer. Up until that time, I thought of community theater as a chance for amateurs to have some fun on the stage, resulting in performances high on enthusiasm but low in quality. My experience at the theater that summer day was truly amazing and certainly changed that perspective. I was not only taken by the quality of the production, but inspired by the energy and joy of the cast members with whom I visited. I hadn't been on stage in over 40 years, but maybe it wasn't too late for this old lawyer to get back up there, I thought.

A few weeks later, I auditioned for and was cast in last fall's production of "The Odd Couple." I fell in love with Black Dirt Theater. The production team is extraordinary and uses creativity to inspire and serve our community. I'm pleased to say that I am also a member of the cast of "Resurrection," Black Dirt Theater's current production. The play was written by our own Andy Langenfeld and tells the stories of second chances and new beginnings that shape one family over several decades.

"Resurrection" is based on true stories gathered from experiences by folks living in the Hastings area. This cast and crew has been hard at work to bring you an inspirational theater experience that combines movement, music and art to explore the frailties and power of the human spirit. We're performing at the middle school over the next two weekends. I hope to see you there.
