James Michael Niemann of Woodbury, MN passed away unexpectedly at his lake home in Rice Lake, WI of natural causes on July 15th, 2022.
Jim was born in Clovis, NM on Marth 13th, 1965 to William and Betty Niemann. Throughout his young life, Jim had the opportunity to live in various locations as the son of a United States Airman. During their time in Lakenheath, England, Jim discovered his love for soccer, which he carried with him for the rest of his life. The Niemann family settled in Minot, NM in 1977, and Jim graduated from Minot High School in 1982
In 1986, Jim moved to the Twin Cities and in 1989, he began coaching soccer so he could share in passion and knowledge for the game with youth and young adults. Jim was a beloved coach for multiple soccer organizations over the years, including Hastings High School, Woodbury Academy and the Minnesota Thunder Academy. Jim began his career as an Air Traffic Controller in 1991. He retired from his ATC post in 2021 but continued his work in the ATC field in the training department at Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center until his death. Jim married his wife Leslee in 2014 and spent 8 wonderful years living his life to the fullest with his best friend and daughter Lucy by his side.
Jim is survived by wife, Leslee Lindahl; children Christian, Jacob (wife Sasha), Caitlin (boyfriend Jerrod), and Lucy; grandchildren, Evelyn, Caroline, and Elliot; , parents, Willian and Betty; sister, Jo Vannett (husband Dan); brother-in-law, Everette Gravely; his nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by sister Joni Gravely
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 8th , 1pm, at the Highland Hills Ski Chalet 8800 Chalet Rd. Bloomington, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Adopt a Husky Minnesota or a favorite charity.
