Mary H. Williams

Mary H. "Marie" Williams, age 101 1/2 of Hastings, died on Friday evening, May 10, 2019, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings.

Mary H., the daughter of Adam and Ida (Krout) Henry, was born on October 11, 1917, in Seven Valley, Pennsylvania. Following her graduation from York High School, Marie continued her education at Westchester College where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. At the age of 19, she started teaching in a one room school house in Pennsylvania with thirty-eight students, and four years later, was united in marriage to James E. Williams on March 25, 1941. They were blessed with five children, BJ, Karyn, Jorel, Lynne, and Jane. Together, they moved to many various communities for Jim's work before settling in Hastings where Marie helped as a crossing guard at Tilden Elementary until she was 89. Marie enjoyed playing bridge, especially with her Edina group that was together for nearly forty years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Hastings where she enjoyed participating in bible studies and prayer groups. Most of all, she loved helping her family in any way she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Libby, Vera, Idella, and Marty; and by her husband James.

Marie is survived by her loving children, B.J. Williams, Karyn (Nick) Wasylik, Jorel Williams, Lynne (Jim) Jackson, and Jane (Rob) Engel; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, niece, Janice (Jim) Murdough; and by her nephew, Loren (Faye) Kroh.

A family Celebration of Marie's Life was previously held with her. She will be interred with her husband James at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, May 17, 2019.
