Virginia Rae

(Ulsrud) Talafous

Virginia Rae (Ulsrud) Talafous, 89, of Hastings, MN passed away peacefully on November 7, 2017, surrounded by family.

Virginia was born in Duluth, MN on June 13, 1928, to Harris ("Doc") & Julia Ulsrud. Virginia was the youngest of 7 children. On April 3, 1949, Virginia married Dale H. Talafous...and as they say, the rest is history. After spending most of their early years of marriage in Proctor, MN...they moved to Hastings in 1962. They had 6 children, 10 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren. Gin & Dale loved their family with all their hearts.

Virginia spent many years at home taking care of her 6 children and attending many hockey games. She also worked in various jobs, but found her calling assisting in the special education classroom for many years. She was also an active member of Resurrection United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Gin started every morning with her quiet time...reading the Bible, doing her devotions & praying for her family & friends. Virginia was a very loving, caring & social person and that was evident in the number of friends she had. She had a great sense of humor & quick wit, and loved a room full of laughter. She will be dearly missed by many.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Dale; her daughter-in-law, Lori; and her 6 siblings, Jane, Lorna, Charlie, Harry, Glen, and Carol.

Virginia is survived by her children, Linda (John) Lightbourn, Kathy, Joanne (Tom) Savage, Dean (Jaqueline), Dave, and Rob (Bonita); grandchildren, Traci Seidel, Brooks Savage, Brian Savage, Cami Savage, Amanda Kemper-Stano, Pete Talafous, Alison Ruhland, Bessy Muller, Anna Talafous, and Megan Schuster; and her 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Fr. Don Talafous; sisters-in-law, Diane (Talafous) Seaman and Agnes Ulsrud.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017, at Resurrection United Methodist Church of Hastings, with Reverend Dr. Christopher Kneen officiating. Private family interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday morning at church.
