Hastings student honored as Eagle Scout
HASTINGS — Jon Kennedy, a sophomore at Hastings High School and son of Eric and Irina Kennedy, earned his Eagle Scout award, the highest in Boy Scouts. Less than 4 percent of Scouts achieve the status.
Jon is a member of Boy Scout Troop 503, sponsored by Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Hastings. His scouting journey started about nine years ago, with his first four years going through Cub Scouts and completing its highest award, the Arrow of Light. He then joined Boy Scouts in 2014. He has earned the Scout badge and the ranks of Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Star, Life and now Eagle. Along the way, he earned 13 required merit badges and eight elective merit badges, served in eight troop leadership positions, including senior patrol leader — the youth leader in charge of the Troop. Jon has also worked more than 60 hours on service projects, not including the over 100 hours he spent on his Eagle Scout service project. In all, he has completed more than 325 different requirements, in addition to those from Cub Scouting.
