HASTINGS — The 23rd annual Hastings Tastings event raised $26,108 for the Market, the Hastings Family Service food shelf. Proceeds from the fundraiser will receive a proportionate match from MN FoodShare.

About 300 guests attended the event to taste menu specialties from 17 area food and drink establishments. Guests had the opportunity to vote for their favorite establishments in several different categories.

The People's Choice Award winners included: The Onion Grille for Best Overall and Best Entree, Las Margaritas for Best Appetizer, and Perkins Restaurant and Bakery for Best Dessert.

"The generosity of the restaurants in our community makes this event possible and they always go the extra mile," said Amy Sutton, associate director at HFS.

Businesses helped raise about $6,000 with their silent auction donations and community members who purchased tickets to sample the food and drinks fed hungry families at the same time. Sutton said the $35 ticket price feeds a family of five for a week.

Participating food establishments included: Alexis Bailly Vineyard, American Legion, Bierstube, CB's All American Barbecue, Coborns Deli, Cub Foods, Dunn Brothers Coffee, Emily's Bakery and Deli, Green Mill, Hastings Dairy Store, Lock and Dam Eatery, Las Margaritas, The Onion Grille, Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery, Rudy's at "The Pines," Spiral Natural Co-op, Treasure Island Resort and Casino's Sabo Steakhouse, and Walmart Deli.
