Snow plow

As the air gets colder and winter weather starts settling in, Hastings residents are reminded to follow city codes regarding snow removal and garbage cans.

Snow removal

City code requires residents to clear the sidewalks on their property within 48 hours after the end of a snowfall for general public safety.

During extended snowfall periods, city plows will come through streets to clear any snow.

If cars can be off of the road, they should to allow snow plows to clear the street its full width.

Keep garbage cans behind the curb

When putting out garbage and recycling cans out for pickup, keep containers behind the back of the curb.

Service trucks are able to reach out and grab curbside garbage and recycling containers from several feet away, so they do not need to be placed on the curb.

Keeping containers off the curb allows for plows to clear streets as effectively as possible.
