Planning Commission votes on McNamara Stadium improvements
On Monday, April 8, the city of Hastings Planning Commission voted to approve the site plan for improvements to McNamara Stadium.
A new synthetic turf, a handicap bleacher lift and ticket buildings are among the planned stadium improvements. A paved parking lot, a trash enclosure and reconstruction of the concessions buildings are included as well. There will be no changes to the number of parking stalls with the new parking lot. The project is expected to cost just over $2 million.
The improvements are part of a plan that the Hastings School Board voted on in 2017, according to Superintendent Tim Collins. A recommendation from a community task force to replace the natural turf that has been used at Todd Field for the past 30 years with a synthetic one got the ball rolling on the project.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and completed before fall.
The site plan will be heard by City Council on Monday, April 15.
