City council briefs: Swearing in of elected officials; Community Development Block Grant budget
Swearing in of elected officials
To start off the Monday, Jan. 7, Hastings City Council meeting, interim City Administrator Julie Flaten swore in Mayor Mary Fasbender. At-large council members Lori Braucks and Mark Vaughan were also sworn in for their second terms.
Community Development Block Grant budget
The council unanimously agreed to authorize the submittal the Community Development Block Grant budget to Dakota County.
The purpose of the funding is to provide activities for low and low/moderate income individuals such as affordable housing, anti-poverty and infrastructure development.
The estimated funding for Hastings is roughly $74,000 — half of which would be used toward assessment abatement and the other half would go towards the CDA Home Improvement Loan Program.
The loan program provides loans to low-income households to make necessary improvements to their homes such as roof replacements, furnace replacements or electrical and plumbing repairs. Over 15 of these loans have been provided to residents in Hastings since 2013.
