A Cannon Falls woman was charged with third degree driving while impaired after being found inside a running vehicle in Hampton. The charge is a gross misdemeanor.

On April 12, a deputy with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a location in Hampton after receiving a report that there was an intoxicated driver inside their running vehicle.

The deputy approached the vehicle and found two open bottles of Fireball cinnamon whisky sitting on the passenger seat in plain view. The driver rolled down her window and told the deputy she’d driven to a park, drank the alcohol then driven to her current location in Hampton.

The driver was identified as 29-year-old Heather Marie Gerlach. She failed field sobriety tests and took a preliminary breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of .182.

She was transported to the Dakota County Jail and had a final breath test taken, showing a concentration of .20.

The legal limit is .08.

Charges were filed April 13.
