A community Halloween party, an open house at Rio Gran and the annual HarvestFest at The Harbor Church are scheduled for Hastings kids in the next week. Candlelight tours at a historic mansion are also planned.

The community Halloween party, sponsored by the Hastings Parks and Recreation, Hastings Community Education and the Hastings YMCA will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, in the Hastings High School Commons area, 200 General Sieben Drive. Rio Gran, 16440 Fischer Ave., will hold its annual Halloween open house, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. This party is just for two-legged ghosts and goblins.

For years the Harbor Church, just north of Hastings on Highway 61, has held a community party as an alternative to trick-or-treating for children. It continues this year from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. The evening is co-sponsored by Pine Harbor Christian Academy and Kids Kare Center.

There will be carnival games, inflatables to play on and food for purchase. Wear your best costumes — please no scary or violent ones.

Admission is a bag of candy.
