Pottinger honored with February Rotary Student of the Month
TJ Pottinger was honored with the February Rotary Student of the Month award Feb. 8. He was nominated by Hastings High School staff member Tim Haneberg.
Pottinger holds a GPA of 3.992 while taking AP courses and college level courses. He is involved with Hastings High School activities including Link Crew and National Honor Society.
Haneberg described Pottinger as one of the best leaders in HHS. He was voted or chosen as captain in each sport he participates in including lacrosse, football and wrestling. One of his teammates said he has an ability to excite and prepare his fellow teammates to go out and perform. In addition, his positive attitude is contagious among the team and his worth ethic pushes everyone else on the team to strive to be on his level.
Pottinger's lacrosse coach, Brady Wasvick, said it was an easy decision to name Pottinger team captain his junior and senior year. Wasvick said Pottinger works on technique on his own, has been at the top of the state leaderboards in stats and is one that leads by example.
"He gives 100 percent every time he touches the field in practice or a game," Wasvick said.
Next year, Pottinger plans to play Division 1 lacrosse at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He will major in pre-med/biology.
