Top mom shares award with 'family'
Janet Bremer, Hastings, was named a America's Farmers Mom of the Year, a program that celebrates women and their contributions to their farms and their communities, as well as the agriculture industry.
Bremer was one of 10 regional winners.
Each winner has the opportunity to give $1,000 to an eligible nonprofit within her community. Bremer decided to give her donation to the Hastings Family Service.
"My family and I have always respected the support Hastings Family Service gives our community members," Bremer said. "Each December we hold an annual food drive called Santa on the Farm to show our support of their services. Using this America's Farmers Mom of the Year award money to provide dairy foods to food shelf recipients is another way we can contribute to this wonderful organization."
The food shelf at HFS, known as the Market, serves roughly 100 families and individuals each month, 45 percent of those recipients being children.
"We are honored and grateful that Janet chose to share her award with Hastings Family Service. Farms and farm families make a big difference in the supply of food for food shelves and for all of us," Amy Sutton, associate director at HFS, said.
