The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department hosted two ways for community members to celebrate the planet with the annual Arbor Day Celebration and the Story Walk on the Hastings River Walk.

The annual Arbor Day Celebration, held Friday, April 19, brought over 40 participants together to plant 10 new trees at Riverwood Park.

To celebrate Earth Day over the weekend, the Parks and Recreation Department set up the Story Walk on the Hastings River Walk. The event features a story that is told on the trails along the Mississippi River. Community members were able to start in either Levee Park or Jaycee Park and walk the 1 mile round-trip trail to learn what happens in the story. This year's story choice was "A Leaf Can Be" by Laura Purdie Salas.
