Time to get outside! It’s National Parks and Recreation Month
Grab the family and the dog — there is no better way to celebrate the Parks and Recreation Department then by participating in its programs.
July is National Parks and Recreation Month. Here is a snapshot of the fun people can have with the Hastings Parks and Recreation department this month:
Yoga in the Park
Yoga will be held at Levee Park 6-7 p.m. July 9, 16, 23. The class will be led by a Hastings Area YMCA instructor. Bring your yoga towel or mat. Classes are $5 per class.
Storytime in the Park
On July 11 the Hastings Parks and Recreation will holds a free Storytime in the Park 10:30-11:15 a.m. at Levee Park.
The event is recommended for kids aged 10 and under, and they must be with an adult. They will be able to participate with stories, songs and games.
Art in the Park
July 12 at 6 p.m. paint your own landscape led by artist Elizabeth Carroll. Cost is $10 per person and make sure to register online.
Movie in the Park
Movie in the Park begins at 8 p.m. at Levee, and is open to all ages. Bring a non-perishable food item (donated to Hastings Family Services) for entry.
July 13 — "Moana"
July 27 — "The Little Rascals"
History in the Park
Learn more about the history of Hastings while enjoying some time outside. The free event will be 10-11 a.m. July 17. Cindy Smith, a curator with the Hastings Pioneer Room, will lead the event in Levee Park. There will be historical artifacts on display.
Recommended for adults and children ages 10 and up.
Music in the Park
As part of the Parks and Recreation summer concert series, the a cappella swing jazz group Minneapolis Commodores will perform 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Levee Park.
Fish with a Ranger
Tuesday, July 24, Parks and Recreation will hold Fish with a Park Ranger at Lake Rebecca Park from 10 a.m. to noon. All supplies will be provided. This event is recommended for ages 15 and under.
Party in the Park
Celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with a big party 5:30-8 p.m. July 26 at Levee Park. All ages are welcome and the event is free.
There will be bounce houses, live music, and many more activities. Live music will be provided by the New Riverside Ramblers.
