Hastings residents made beautiful music together last week.

June 21 was the community's first encore performance with Make Music Day.

The event, put on by the Hastings Park and Recreation department, took place in four parks across Hastings and drew more than 720 people, according to recreational programming specialist Paige Marschall Bigler. That is an increase from last year's inaugural event.

At the various locations — Levee Park, Roadside Park, Lions Park and Oliver's Grove Park — 10 different groups or soloists performed, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m.

The musicians were local as well as from around the metro in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Music covered numerou genres ... from jazz to rock, and country to indie.

The Hastings celebration is one of two Make Music Day events in Minnesota. Six locations in and around Minneapolis participated June 21 as well.
