Hastings pub hosts unique games, events for guests
Ever play Vingo?
This fun mix of music videos and bingo can be found at Pub 55 in Hastings every Friday.
The bar and restaurant, located at 880 Bahls Drive, was purchased by Caitlen Wernimont and her team last May. In an effort to make the hard to see location more recognizable, the name, previously Wyatt's Twisted Americana, was changed to Pub 55 this past fall.
Other than giving the business a fresh take, the name was purposefully shortened to increase visibility from the road, Wernimont said.
The bar has been a neighborhood establishment since the 1980s.
"Since the name change and people finding out there are new owners, we've had old and new faces coming in to see what we've done to change it," Wernimont said. "The staff has changed, our service is better, we've increased the food quality and we've added different beers."
The pub has also added a variety of different events and activities to keep people coming back.
Other than Vingo, Pub 55 offers trivia nights on Tuesday and an "All You Can Eat" fish fry on Fridays — a patron favorite.
Saturdays are packed with a free meat giveaway and live music. The meat giveaways, a package from Duff's, start at 2 p.m., and a prize is given away every 20 minutes for an hour. Live music is from 8-10 p.m. and often features local artists.
Pub 55 is starting to add bigger events to their calendar as well.
This weekend marks the Pub 55 inaugural Chili Cook-Off. The cook-off will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10. It costs $5 to be a judge, and those interested can stop in to get more details.
Another event coming up is the Indoor Ice Fishing Tournament, which will take place 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. The grand prize will be an ice shack. Other prizes will include a Yeti cooler, fishing poles and more. Pub 55 will be releasing details about the event in the following weeks. Visit the Pub 55 Facebook page to get more details.
