A new Hastings amenity recently opened in town by the name of Just Sit Sala. The new business located at 1303 South Frontage Road in Suite 261 is a place of meditation and contemplation.

Owner Rob Ring said that the business was named after advice from the Tibetan sage Milarepa. When students asked how to progress in their meditation, Milarepa told them to "just sit."

Ring said that meditation is one of the easiest things in the world to learn, but it is the hardest to practice because people don't think there is time to just sit and be quiet. Just Sit Sala will offer an area for people to stop by at lunch, after work, or some other point in their day to meditate.

Various classes, healing touch and consultations will also be available.

"Just Sit Sala is a place to just sit, be quiet, relax; a place where we can leave the world outside, turn inward and just take care of self," Ring said.

Just Sit Sala offers meditation instruction, somatic consultation, Tai Chi, Karuna Yoga, private consultations and more.

Ring was first introduced to meditation through his psychologist about 25 years ago. He was a police officer in Woodbury when he was injured in a bar fight. He developed chronic pain from his injuries and meditation was something that helped the pain subside.

"I know how meditation and alternative things help me and so I want to be able to assist in helping other people," Ring said.

Healing touch is another component of what Ring will incorporate into Just Sit Sala. He said that he has done a lot of work with people over the years where he would go into the home, but he has never had his own space.

There are several health benefits to meditation, according to Ring. Meditation can reduce stress, rejuvenate the body, decrease blood pressure, improve blood circulation, strengthen the heart, improve digestion, decrease anxiety, decrease frustration, decrease

Ring said that no experience is necessary. People are free to stop by and visit to learn more.

Just Sit Sala is open Mondays from 2-6 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30-6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.
