A Kenyon man heavily involved in that community of 1,700 has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct. Several young boys have come forward to say Patrick Luna made sexual comments to them while they worked at Pat's Pit Stop. Luna owns the popular pizza and video rental shop in the city's downtown area. A Maple Grove Township man was arraigned Wednesday in Becker County District Court on a second-degree murder charge. Bail was set at $1 million for Kenneth Eugene Andersen, 34, of 37997 280th Ave., Waubun. Andersen is accused of the murder of Chad Swedberg, 33, a rural Ogema man who was shot April 13 while processing maple sugar on his property. Andersen was charged with felony second degree murder last Thursday in Becker County District Court. He was being held in Roseau County on a theft charge and made his first appearance in Becker County District Court late Wednesday morning.
WORTHINGTON -- A 21-year-old Worthington man has been accused of allegedly forcing a 13-year-old girl to have sexual intercourse while she was at his home. Leon Baldomero Villarreal was charged last week with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, both serious felonies, in Nobles County District Court. According to the criminal complaint, the victim's father contacted authorities to tell them his daughter, who had been reported as a runaway the week before, had told him an older man had forced her to have sexual intercourse.
A 22-year-old Osakis man was killed in a car crash near Osakis Thursday morning. Adam Thomas Loxtercamp died at the scene of the crash that happened just before 7 a.m. two miles southeast of Osakis on Todd County Road 51.
Minnesota, as a major transportation hub by air worldwide and by vehicle to Canada, needs its own passport processing office, U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman said Wednesday. The Bush administration announced that it will delay for at least six months a rule that Americans present passports when crossing the U.S. border by land or sea, originally slated to take effect Jan. 1. Starting in January, land and sea travelers returning from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda will be allowed to present a birth certificate and driver's license in lieu of a passport.
ST. PAUL - Minnesota farmland could serve as a laboratory for new federally directed research into the next phase of renewable energy. Congress has begun writing new federal agriculture legislation, which will replace the existing farm bill that expires in September.
Red Wing resident Alex Huppert was injured during combat in Germany eight days before World War II ended. Huppert received a concussion and a flight to a hospital in France. Later he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. "I wasn't a hero," Huppert said, "I did what I had to do." Huppert said when he returned from the war it took him a while to adjust and he didn't receive the response from civilians that he had expected he would. "When I came home, I wasn't treated the way I thought people would treat me," Huppert said.
A treasured piece of Red Wing's historic district was severely damaged Monday after a fast-moving fire raced through the top levels of the Joss-Willard House. Firefighters said the blaze at 821 W. Third St. was swift and difficult to manage. "It spread fast," said Red Wing fire Chief Mike Amendolar. "Once the fire got going, there really wasn't anything to stop it." The Minnesota State Patrol has identified 64-year-old Rosemount resident Jerome D. Caron as the man killed in a Monday afternoon accident on Highway 3 in Dakota County. Robyn M. Meddings, a passenger on the Vespa scooter Caron was driving, was airlifted to Regions hospital and was listed in critical condition Monday night. According to a State Patrol report Caron and Meddings were northbound on Highway 3 when the scooter's rear tire blew out. Both were thrown from the scooter, which ended up in the southbound traffic lane. No other vehicle was involved.
