The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to announce that Jennifer Lanting of Hastings was recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Lanting was initiated at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Lanting is among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Greta Ann Gorgus was born on Sept. 16, 2013, at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater to Mark and Kelli Gorgus of Prescott, Wis. At birth, Greta weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. For years, the AARP has offered Defensive Driving program for seniors through the Hastings Area Senior Center. Safe driving tips were provided and seniors could possibly earn a discount of their driver’s insurance. The AARP has updated its program and changed its name to Smart Driver. The rates have also increased. Beginning Jan. 1, those enrolling in the program will have to prove membership in the AARP to get a reduced fee at the time of registration.
