Join Dakota County Historical Society and Friends of LeDuc of Historic Hastings for the first in a series of Author’s Sundays on Sunday, Feb. 23, 1 p.m. at the Estate, 1629 Vermillion Street, Hastings. Featured author will be Joel Arnold who wrote Ox Cart Angel, which recently won a Midwest Book Award. This historical novel takes place in 1862 along the ox-cart/Red River trails of Minnesota and North Dakota.
On Friday, Feb. 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., area families are invited to a Hastings Reads Family event at the YMCA. This event is for families with children in elementary school. Bring your young ones to the YMCA for pizza, books and wild hair. Pizza will be served from 6 p.m.

University of MN Crookston announces dean’s list Dakota Tileraas of Hastings has been named to the fall semester 2013 dean’s list at the University of Minnesota Crookston.
Chase Diesel Paulick was born on Jan. 1, 2014, at Regina Medical Center to Heather Hamilton and Mike Paulick of Ellsworth, Wis. At birth Chase weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was the first baby of the new year born at Regina. Grandparents are John and Vickie Hamilton of Ellsworth and Steve and Barb Paulick of River Falls, Wis.
Eden Grace Kimmes was born on Dec. 22, 2013, to Marty and Jane Kimmes of Lakewood, Colo. At birth Eden weighed 8 pounds, 6.3 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Grandparents are Tom and Maureen Kimmes of Hastings and Steve and Peg Keller of Conifer, Colo.

Chelsea Rae Weber was born Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Northfield Hospital to Nick and Jill Weber of Cannon Falls. At birth Chelsea weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces and was 22.5 inches long. Grandparents are Dan and Callie Johnson of Hampton and Merrilee and the late Doug Weber of Cannon Falls. Her great-grandparents are Jack and Marlys Weber and Conrad and Carol Johnson, all of rural Cannon Falls, and Don and Nola Sangren of Kenyon.

Students from Hastings who received their degrees from Metropolitan State University in December of 2013 are: Colleen Carey, Bachelor of Arts in social science; Steven Morris, Bachelor of Science in business administration; and Frankline Onsinyo, Bachelor of Science in nursing, magna cum laude.
John A. Tix of Hastings graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the winter of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in biology, fish/water resources.
