Last week at Southwest Minnesota State University, the American Legion Boys State announced the winners of the 12 mayoral races across the program. Skyler Rawling, son of Bill and Tammy Rawling of Hastings, was elected as part of the first round of city elections held at the week-long program this week. Rawling attends Hastings High School in Hastings. His sponsor was the Nelson-Lucking American Legion Post #47 in Hastings.
Gabriella Grace Lucking was born on May 27, 2014, at Regions Hospital to Matthew and Amanda Lucking of Hastings. At birth Gabriella weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. She has one sister, Elliana Lucking. Grandparents are Roger and Sharon Lucking of Hastings and Lorie Waleski of Hastings. Justin and Heather (Wahlstrom) Frederick and big sister Natalie of West Concord announce the arrival of Madelyn Geraldine Frederick, born Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. At birth, Madelyn weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19.75 inches long. Grandparents are Bryce and Brenda Frederick of Zumbrota and Gary and Jeri Wahlstrom of Hastings.
Dr. Christopher Nelson, formerly of Hastings, was promoted to the rank of a major in the United States Air Force on May 19, 2014. Dr. Nelson is a 2000 graduate of Hastings High School, a 2004 graduate of Bethel University and a 2008 graduate of Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed an internal medicine residency at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital in Biloxi, Miss. He will graduate from a pulmonary/intensivist fellowship June 20 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The AgStar Fund for Rural America, the corporate giving program of AgStar Financial Services, announced that it awarded Gabriella Sorg, a 2014 graduate of Hastings High School, a $1,000 educational scholarship. The AgStar Fund has awarded $25,000 in scholarships to 25 graduating seniors this year. Five students from each of AgStar’s five regions have been chosen to receive a scholarship.
