Faye Ann Riley, age 60, of Prescott, Wis., died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her residence. Faye was born on September 5, 1947, at River Falls Hospital, the daughter of Herbert and Dorothy (Stern) Yanisch. She graduated in 1965 from Prescott High School. In 1966, she married, had two children and later divorced. In her youth, she enjoyed playing on the farm with her sisters and friends and writing to her pen pals while suffering from rheumatic fever. She adored her parents and always said she loved her childhood.
Donald F. Fuchs, age 83 of Ellsworth, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Full obituary to appear next week.
Steve Stricker of Madison is tied for 11th after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii. It's the PGA's first tournament of the year and it's only for those who won tournaments last year. Stricker shot an even-par 73 Thursday. Nick Watney is the leader at five-under. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are not among the field of 31. Stricker is one of four Top 10 players competing.
Jean Marie Huppert, age 67, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, from pancreatic cancer at her daughter's home in Maple Grove, Minn. Jean was born on June 2, 1940, in Hastings, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Zeien) Meier. She grew up in Hastings, Minnesota, and graduated from high school in Hastings before going to work for the Smead Company in Hastings.
Tracie JoLynn Slotto, 29, of Hager City, Wis., died Friday in Pierce County, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born Aug. 23, 1978, in Hastings, Minn., to David and Mary Jo (Stechmann) Slotto and attended high school there. She and her boyfriend lived in Amery, Wisconsin, for a time and she returned to the area in 2004. She had recently been doing tiling work, "Tiling by Tracie," and other interior decorating work.
Allen Richard Bauer Sr., age 57, of Bay City, Wis., died instantly, Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, in a car accident on Highway 35 while returning from deer hunting. Allen was born on Dec.10, 1949, in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Alois and Irene (Fox) Bauer. He attended Red Wing High School before graduating in 1969 from Benilde High School in St.

At long last the first river barge of the 2007 shipping season is moving up the Mississippi River. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in St. Paul the MV Coral Dawn operated by the American River Transportation Co., based in St. Louis will be the first tow and barge to head into St. Paul. The MV Coral Dawn passed through Lock and Dam 10 early Tuesday morning and company officials expect it to pass by Red Wing, Minn., sometime Thursday and arrive in St. Paul late Thursday or early Friday. Weather conditions and river currents will affect the barge's progress.
Lucile Eleanor Voeltz, 101, formerly of Prescott, Wis., died on Wednesday, May 22, at Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, Minn. The funeral service for Lucile Eleanor Voeltz will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main St., Brownsdale, Minn., with Reverend Jeff Sage officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Frankford Cemetery in rural Spring Valley, Minn.
