A St. Croix County man stabbed his mother to death Saturday night in rural Hudson before shooting at police in an incident that led to a 50-mile pursuit into Minnesota, eventually ending with the suspect taking his own life, authorities said. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Glenwood City resident Logan T. Reese. The 28-year-old allegedly killed his mother, identified as 49-year-old Charlene Wold, at 733 N. Meadow Drive in the town of Hudson.
A St. Croix County judge set bail at $100,000 Thursday for a Somerset man accused of sexploitation and sexually assaulting a child. St. Croix Circuit Court Judge Scott Needham ordered bail for Richard A. Maness, who was charged with repeated sexual assault of a child, sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and child enticement.
Wisconsin authorities put out an alert Wednesday for suspects in a credit card scam that allegedly involves Walmart stores from Woodbury to Red Wing. According to a St. Croix Falls (Wis.) Police Department announcement, two suspects used cloned credit cards to buy gift cards on Sunday, Dec. 18, at a Walmart there. The suspects have been active in Pierce County and at Walmarts in Cottage Grove, Woodbury and Red Wing, according to police.

River towns from Stillwater to Red Wing are expected to see water levels rise over the next few days, though forecasts are not showing flood stage being reached. The St. Croix River in Stillwater was at 80 feet Thursday morning and was expected to crest at about 85 feet early Sunday, according to to the National Weather Service . Flood stage there is at 87 feet.

Authorities on Monday identified the drivers in a two-vehicle Town of Martell wreck that left one man hospitalized. The injured man, identified in a Wisconsin State Patrol news release as 63-year-old Terry Guanella, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. He was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus. The driver of the semi, 51-year-old Duane Allen Anderson from Hastings, was not injured, according to the release. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The crash occurred at 6:25 a.m. near highways 63 and 29 in Town of Martell.
