Anton S. Krizan, age 82, of Hastings died July 19, 2009, at the Regina Medical Center. Anton was born February 3, 1927, in Colome, S.D., to Anton J. and Anna (Cahoy) Krizan. He served as a paratrooper during WWII and in the Army Intelligence Corp during the Korean War. Anton was a former employee of South Dakota State University, working in health education, and was currently employed at the Hastings Target Store. He was a member of the American Legion. Anton was preceded in death by his parents.
Janice J. Burr, age 73, of Hastings died July 17, 2009, at her home. Janice was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Hastings to Francis and Agnes (Doffing) Dummer. She was a 1953 graduate of Hastings High School and was a former employee at 1st National Bank in St. Paul. Janice married Lawrence Burr Aug. 9, 1958, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Hastings, and she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Her parents preceded her in death.
Dolores A. Manders, age 67, of Hastings died July 16, 2009, at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings Dolores was born March 14, 1942, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Harold and Rosamond (Cook) Anderson. She worked in home health care, and was now thoroughly enjoying her time at Oak Ridge Manor with her many friends and all the arts and crafts. She also loved to play cards, her favorite game being bridge.
Richard S. Law, age 59, of Hastings, passed away July 9, 2009, at home after a long illness. Richard was born in St. Paul Aug. 13, 1949, to James and Geraldine (Stahl) Law. He married Deborah Deiman Sept. 30, 1978, in St. Paul Park.
Walter C. Holmgren, 89, formerly of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at Augustana Care in Hastings. Funeral service and honor guard at Fort Snelling on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements were handled by the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 651-437-9419.
Sergeant Wayne Hosford, age 35, of Hastings, formerly of Illinois, a member in the 33rd Brigade Combat Team, passed away July 6, 2009, in Konduz, Afghanistan, caused by a roadside bomb. He is preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne Elaine Hosford. He is survived by his son, Tristyn Hosford; his three siblings, Cliff Hosford, Michelle "Sis" (Ryan) Nilson, and Brad Hosford; and five nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.
Reverend Lester Fair, age 83, of Hastings died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. He was born April 4, 1926, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Robert and Myrtle (Holmstrom) Fair. He married F. Marie Monaghan Dec. 13, 1947, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Reverend Fair was the founder of Haven Homes Health Care Center of Hastings and former pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Hastings.
Earl C. Quant, age 62, of Chisago City, passed away unexpectedly July 10, 2009. Earl was born January 17, 1947, in Hastings to Edmund and Viola (Donndelinger) Quant. He grew up in Hastings and after school, he had a lot of adventures, but his heart was always in Hastings. He loved his job driving that big truck, and put on thousands of miles over the years. He was the kind of guy that played jokes on people to see them smile or laugh. He enjoyed and excelled at woodworking and remodeling. If you ever needed help, Earl would be there.
Charles F. Jones, age 79, of Hastings, formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas, went home to be with his Savior on July 2, 2009, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Paul Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marlene, and children Bonnie (Glen) Saponari, Charles Jr., (Barbara) Jones, Mark (Sherry) Morstad, Gary (Charlene) Morstad, Peter Morstad, David Jones, and Kate (Ken) Seaton; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jeremy R. Gydesen, age 35, of Stillwater, died July 10, 2009. Jeremy was born in Minneapolis, Minn., Jan. 9, 1974, to Edward "Pete" and Anna (Bauer) Gydesen. He married Stacy Kay McMahon Oct. 10, 2008, in Washington County. Jeremy was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Stacy Kay; daughter, Jessica; step-children, Megan and Michael; mother, Anna Gydesen of Hastings; sister, Dana (Chad) Toll of Lakeville; and nephew and niece, Justin and Sierra Toll. The memorial service, with the Rev. Jim Bzoskie officiating, will be held at 10 a.m.
