Judith "Sparky" Ackerman, age 67, of Hastings, passed away June 9, 2009. She was born March 17, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Clifford and Catherine Ostrem. Judith married Wesley Ackerman on Sept.
Norbert Charles Stoffel, age 88, of Cannon Falls, died Sunday morning, June 14, 2009, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Norbert was born on March 9, 1921, in Vermillion, Minn., the son of Marcus and Mary (Marschall) Stoffel. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in Korea. He married Lucille S. Kruse November 21, 1942, in Miesville. They lived most of their married life in Empire, and owned and operated the Empire Supper Club from 1948 to 1985, when they retired. They were members of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Farmington. He was also a life member of the VFW.
Eleanor Ellsworth, 101, mother of former Hastings resident Sondra Ellsworth Glasenapp, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Rochester. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 22 at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Ave. SW, in Rochester, with visitation at 1 p.m.
Gotthard B. Rohling, age 84, of Hastings, died June 15, 2009, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Gotthard was born in Freeport, Minn., April 22, 1925, to Henry and Amelia (Stangler) Rohling. He married Veronica Piekarski April 21, 1956, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in South St. Paul.
On Sunday, June 14, 2009, Robert "Bob" Joseph Hackel, age 77, died suddenly in Hastings, Minn. Bob enjoyed his summers in Hastings with family, and spent his winters in Dunedin, Fla., following his retirement. His enthusiasm for life was evident in the many friendships he made along his life's path. For those who knew Bob, he was one of a kind. Thomas J. Downs, age 53, an avid hunter and fisherman of Hastings, passed away suddenly June 11, 2009. He was born May 29, 1956, in Minneapolis to Edward and Maxine Downs. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward. He is survived by his children, Emily, Katelyn, and Taylor Downs, and Micah Conroy; grandchildren, Kayla, Kai; and Julian; mother, Maxine Downs; sister, Nancy (Jerry) Miller; brothers, Edward (Kathy) Downs, Bob (Sue) Downs, and Steve (Sherry) Downs; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was at 3 p.m.
