Myrna E. Chasteen of St. Paul Park, surrounded by her loving family, was reunited with her husband, James, fifteen brothers and sisters, grandson James Allen Chasteen, Jr., and a great-grandchild. Myrna was the youngest of nineteen children. She was a strong woman of great faith, and served many at All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove. Her career began as a legal secretary for a law firm in Muscatine, Iowa. She married the love of her life, James H. Chasteen, and raised five children, moving to St. Paul Park, Minn., in 1961.
Bernice Traynor, age 86, of River Falls, Wis., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Bernice was born Oct. 7, 1923, to Christian and Cora (Schruth) Hanson in Pepin Township, Wis. On Dec. 13, 1941, Bernice married Sylvester Traynor Jr. in Spring Valley. They lived south of Spring Valley for many years. Sylvester was killed in a hunting accident Nov. 22, 1969. In 2007, Bernice moved to the Lutheran Home in River Falls. Bernice was a gentle, kind-hearted woman who loved to be with her family.
Marcus A. Deutsch, age 83, of Hastings, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Marcus was born April 16, 1926, in Eden, S.D. to Joseph and Mary (Trautner) Deutsch.
George J. Brockman Jr., age 68, of Hastings, died unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2009 at United Hospital in St. Paul. George was born at New Trier on Jan. 14, 1941, to George J. and Mathilda (Siebenaler) Brockman. He married Joyce (McDonald) Jan. 18, 1964, in New Trier. George was retired from CF Industries after 33 years of employment. He was a lover of camping and had a passion for bartending. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jimmy. George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce of Hastings; daughter, Deb (Tim) Shull of Hastings; sons, Mark Brockman of St.
Roger J. Berdahl, age 77, of Regina Residence in Hastings, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. Roger was born Feb. 2, 1932, at Sioux Falls, S.D. to Ole and Alma (Carson) Berdahl. He was a graduate of Washington High School and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, and of Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He was a retired Lutheran Pastor who had served Kenwood Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minn. After retiring he was employed at Aetna Insurance Company. He married Harriet Larson. She preceded him in death in 1974.
Charles L. Kieffer, age 90, of Hastings, died Dec. 2, 2009, at Regina Medical Center. Charles was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Hastings, to Lewis and Mary (Doffing) Kieffer. He was a 1937 graduate of Hastings High School, and served with the Marines in the South Pacific during WWII. Charles married Edna M. Riley Nov. 9, 1946, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Hastings. He worked at 3M for 33 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Donald A. Burright, 75, of Hot Springs Village, formerly of Hastings, died Dec. 1, 2009, in a Hot Springs, Ark. hospital. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com .
Darold Buck, born July 28, 1928, to John and Rosalie in Red Wing, Minn., passed away of natural causes on Nov. 27, 2009. Darold was a longtime resident of Hastings but grew up in the Goodhue/Mazeppa area. He served in Korea as a member of the U.S. Army and was a loyal member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Darold was a longtime employee of ConAgra Foods. In retirement, Darold enjoyed woodworking, working on cars and spending time with his family. Darold was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Laverne and Cyrus.
Pauline Marie was born March 20, 1928, in Hastings, to Frank and Theresa (Macheska) Seleskie. She married James B. Schneider on February 15, 1947, in Hastings. Pauline was a former clerk at the Meyer Company in Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pauline is survived by her husband, James; son, Thomas (Gayle) Schneider of Hastings; daughters, Joan Ann Reuter of Hastings and Jeanette "Jane" Schneider of Ft. Myers, Fla.; also nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The Memorial Mass, officiated by Fr. Allen Paul Eilen, was held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at St.
Anthony Mathias Schweich, age 9, of Hampton, passed away Nov. 26, 2009, after a 2-1/2 year battle with childhood cancer. Anthony is survived by his parents, Tom Schweich and Betty Simonson; grandparents, Robert Schweich of Hastings; JoAnne Schweich of Hastings and Joyce and Delores Simonson of Wanamingo; other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Stan Mader, was at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Trier. A visitation was held from 4-8 p.m.
